Lone Oak Cottage
This holiday rental property is within easy reach of Bath, Bristol, Glastonbury, Wells, Salisbury and all of the main Somerset attractions.
Lone Oak Cottage is only 2 miles from the busy town of Castle Cary, although the nearest neighbours are about half a mile away!
The bungalow was built in 1952 and was originally home to the herdsmen. It was named after the solitary oak tree in the large field behind it.
When we sold the herd of dairy cows in 2003, we renovated Lone Oak and have added hand rails, a recliner chair and a 'raiser' chair to make it suitable for those guests who need a bit of help.
The cottage is now rated with an M1 Grading by Quality in Tourism (Visit Britain). Please see our - access statement - for more details.
Although Lone Oak is suitable for older or slightly disabled guests, it is ideal for families: you may walk, have a picnic or play football in the fields behind and to the side of the property - as long as the farms beef herd are not grazing there! Several families have visited with Grannie and Grandpa.
Accommodation
Enjoy the private setting of Lone Oak Cottage - but come to the farmhouse to play in the children's play area, feed the chickens, walk by the river, or swim in the heated outdoor pool.
The seperate living room has a digital TV with DVD player, a video player and a cosy electric fire. The large kitchen/dining room is fitted with modern equipment and appliances including:
- Oil-fired Rayburn to run the central heating
- Electric oven, ceramic hob and microwave
- Dishwasher and fridge freezer
- Washing machine and tumble dryer
There are 3 bedrooms. The first double room has a 5 foot wide double bed (sometimes called a 'Queen' size bed). The second bedroom has a double bed (4 foot 6 inches wide) and an en-suite shower room, plus patio doors to the back garden. The twin bedded room (with two 3 foot wide beds) completes the accommodation.
The second shower room in the cottage features a large 'power shower' with thermostatic temperature control and hand rails for the less mobile.
Lone Oak is warm in the winter with double-glazed windows and a well insulated loft.
Furnishing and equipment are to the same 4 star standard as - The Tallet Holiday Cottage
Food and Drink
We encourage you to buy local food when you are staying at The Tallet or in Lone Oak Cottage. Before your visit you may like to order food from our local Farmers Market site - www.sfmdirect.co.uk - this carries a very wide range of items and the prices are competitive.
Usual latest order time via the Farmer's Market website is 8am on Tuesday morning for delivery on Thursday but this may vary at Christmas and Easter so please check at the time of ordering, especially if you are buying perishable items. If you put a note to indicate that you will be staying at Clanville Manor, they will deliver to the farmhouse and we shall make sure that it is ready in your fridge or freezer for your arrival.
We will lay a tray of tea and homemade cake for your arrival, and there will also be a small selection of local foods or drink for you to try, depending on the season.
In Castle Cary there are good quality butchers, delicatessens and shops including a wonderful store selling home-made dishes and treats to take away - give the cook a holiday too!
Further variety is provided by a Chinese take away, 2 fish and chip shops, a Thai restaurant and other pubs and restaurants within the locality. Lots more information available in the guest folder.
