This holiday rental property is within easy reach of Bath, Bristol, Glastonbury, Wells, Salisbury and all of the main Somerset attractions.
Lone Oak Cottage is only 2 miles from the busy town of Castle Cary, although the nearest neighbours, including Sally & ‘Farmer Rob’ at the farmhouse, are about half a mile away! The bungalow was built in 1952 and was originally home to the herdsmen. It was named after the solitary oak tree in the large field behind it. Lone Oak has been a holiday cottage since we sold the dairy herd in 2003 and we have improved it over the years.
The kitchen has a an electric oven with ceramic hob, a dishwasher; the fridge, freezer and microwave are in the lovely pantry. A washing machine and tumble dryer are available in the utility room.
The sitting area has seating for six, lots of books and children’s’ toys and a Flat-screen TV with Freeview and a DVD player.
Enjoy your own garden with a BBQ and sun-loungers in Summer. You may walk, have a picnic or play football in the fields behind and to the side of the property – just please check with us first!
We supply a cot with bedding, booster seat, cupboard locks, and socket covers, highchair, steriliser, bottle warmer, children’s cutlery and crockery, changing mat, step, even a trainer toilet seat and potty!!
Enjoy the private setting of Lone Oak Cottage with its slide and Wendy House – but come to the farmhouse to play in the larger children’s play area, walk by the river, or swim in the heated outdoor pool (June, July & August). There is a shower room, loo and picnic table for Lone Oak guests to use at the farmhouse.
There are 3 bedrooms, all with comfortable beds and fitted wardrobes. The first double room has a 6 foot wide bed (sometimes called a ‘Super-king’ size bed).
The second bedroom has a ‘King’ size bed (5 foot wide) and an en-suite shower room, plus patio doors to the back garden.
The twin bedded room (with 3 foot wide single beds) completes the accommodation.
The second shower room in the cottage features a large ‘power shower’ with thermostatic temperature control and hand rails for the less mobile, and a baby bath to put in the shower tray for younger guests. No other bath is available.
Although Lone Oak is suitable for older or slightly disabled guests, it is also ideal for all generations, with facilities for guests from 0 to 90! Several families have visited with Grannie and Grandpa. If you are a larger party, please enquire about the ‘room only’ or ‘self-service B&B’ option of staying in the ‘four-poster’ bedroom in the farmhouse when booking Lone Oak or The Tallet.
Lone Oak is warm in the winter with full oil fired central heating, double-glazed windows and a well insulated loft. Furnishing and equipment are to the same 4 star standard as – The Tallet Holiday Cottage
Food and Drink
To encourage you to buy food from local suppliers when you are staying in one of the holiday cottages, before your visit you might like to order food from – our local Farmers’ Market web site – which offers a wide range of produce at competitive prices.
Usual latest order time via the Farmers’ Market website is 9am on Tuesday morning for delivery on Friday but this may vary at Christmas and Easter so please check at the time of ordering, especially if you are buying perishable items.
