Introduction

Our Georgian farmhouse B&B is in a rural setting on our working beef farm. We have four guest rooms and can accommodate a maximum of six people at any one time. The house is over 250 years old and whilst we aim to meet the needs of all our guests, there are some features that might make access difficult for people with limited mobility and/or visual problems.

All B&B rooms are located on the first floor, so our B&B accommodation is not suitable for wheelchair users or those who rely on crutches. The stairs in the farmhouse B&B are polished English Oak with no carpet but are wide enough (106 cm / 42 inches) for two people to ascend side by side. There are 19 stairs with a chair on a half landing after 12 stairs.

The Tallet self-catering cottage has a narrow stone staircase and both bedrooms and the bathroom are on the first floor.

Pre-Arrival

  • We have a comprehensive website www.clanvillemanor.co.uk with photos of all public rooms, detailed directions and a map, online availability and booking
  • The farmhouse B&B and the Tallet are located at the end of a quarter mile concrete drive, accessed from the B3153 across a cattle grid. This is wide enough (9ft/2.75m) for a car but you may
    need to open the (heavy) farm gate for access by a van or truck. Our location is not ideally suited to those travelling without a car.
  • Self-catering guests are encouraged to buy local food, which can be delivered before your stay. Go to www.sfmdirect.co.uk this carries a wide range of items and prices are competitive. Online
    supermarket delivery is also possible but we prefer that you time this for after your arrival.
  • The nearest shops, pubs and restaurants are approximately 2 miles away. The B3153 on which our entrance is located does not have pavements and we cannot recommend walking along it especially in
    the dark.
  • The nearest bus stop is in Clanville about 300m from the end of our drive. Buses run infrequently; routes can planned using the website www.traveline.info before your visit.
  • The nearest railway station is Castle Cary, 1 mile away. Taxis are usually available at the station but we can provide details of taxi companies for you to book in advance if required. (Approx
    £5 fare). In an emergency we can arrange to pick you up from the station.
  • We have 3 cats and a dog. We do not accept guests’ pets. Our pets have access to the farmhouse but are not allowed in the guest bedrooms or in The Tallet. Assistance dogs can be accommodated if
    informed at the time of booking.
  • Information and B&B menus can be provided in large print if required. We do not have facilities to prepare documents in Braille.

Arrival and Car Parking

  • Please advise us of your anticipated arrival time so that we can be sure we are here to welcome you.
  • To ensure your accommodation is ready we ask that B&B guests do not normally arrive before 4pm or after 9pm. Your room is available all day during your visit and checkout on the day of
    departure is 10.30am.
  • The Tallet is available from 3pm on the day of your arrival. Check out on departure is 10am.
  • Other arrival times are usually possible if we are informed.
  • The guests’ car park for B&B and The Tallet is behind the farmhouse. Signs are provided to direct guests. If you are likely to need help opening the car park gate, please let me know in
    advance and I can turn on the sensor at the gate to warn me of your arrival.
  • If you are unable to walk from the car park to the B&B front door (approx 30m) then you may be dropped off at the front gate on the drive, but cars must be parked in the car park behind the
    house.
  • There are five lights with movement detectors to light the way from the car park to the front door in darkness, and an outside light beside the front door.
  • Smoking is strictly not allowed in any accommodation-there are mains powered linked smoke alarms that will all sound if anyone smokes in any room or tampers with the alarms. Smoking is permitted
    in the back garden only.
  • In the B&B we are happy to cater for special diets or any particular likes or dislikes. Please advise us of these before your arrival.
  • We have a guest fridge in the B&B dining room for storage of cold drinks, food or medication, and to freeze cool blocks. There are wine glasses and a corkscrew on the main landing.
  • Mobile phone reception is generally good and we have Wi-Fi access for your laptop through a filtered provider in The Tallet and the farmhouse B&B.

We are most of the year except Christmas and New Year. We sometimes close for holidays and redecorating.

Future Plans

We are undertaking a review of the accessibility of our website with a view to using text enlargement buttons. However in most modern internet browsers (Google Chrome, Firefox and more recent
versions of Internet Explorer for example) it is easy to ‘Zoom In’ or ‘Increase Size’ when viewing our website pages to make them more readable.

Long-term plans include providing a fully disabled self-catering ground floor cottage with two upstairs ensuite rooms. We plan to also provide for hearing and visual impairment in this
accommodation.
