Friends Of Clanville Manor: Local Author Diana Crighton
A local author, Diana Crighton, has included Clanville Manor in the book called 'Time For Somerset' as follows:
'Just before Alford, I have stayed at Clanville Manor and now count as friends the Snook family who have farmed here for 100 years. The Georgian farmhouse of 1743, resplendent among the fields and farm buildings, is strategically placed for many of these excursions. The smell of hay that feeds their own beef herd, and the sound of chickens, which produce the breakfast eggs, the sight of ducks on the pond as I first drove into the yard, coincided one spring evening with the arrival of the first house martins. Breakfast is wonderfully local: smoked salmon from Brown and Forrest, home made marmalade, local cheese, bacon and sausages, served in a fine dining room with the fields which lead along a path to the site of an old Roman villa, seen through elegant windows. Another, a round-headed Venetian window, faces the delightful polished oak staircase as you climb to the bedrooms'.
